Chapters & learning objectives
1. Introduction: the Sound of Senescence
The first chapter of this course is designed to frame the goals of the presbyphonia evaluation, including the effects of aging on systems that are related to voice.
2. Vocal Quality of Life
The second chapter of this course will describe the Vocal Capabilities Battery, instruction the participant in how to establish a base-line of function in their client.
3. Case History
Once the vocal quality of life is established, it is important to then determine the level of vocal function of the client through a detailed case history. This chapter will provide the tools for the participant to gather the information needed to determine vocal capability in the aging adult.
4. The Perceptual Evaluation
This chapter will introduce and demonstrate the implementation of the perceptual evaluation for aging voice, including the specific tasks required and the research background for this approach.
5. The Aerodynamic Assessment
This chapter will introduce and demonstrate the implementation of the aerodynamic assessment, including the techniques and available technology needed to measure aerodynamic function.
6. The Acoustic Assessment
This chapter will introduce and demonstrate the implementation of the acoustic assessment, including the techniques and different forms of technology that are available to reliably assess acoustic function.
7. Understanding Changes in Behavior
The final instructional chapter of this course will provide the tools to make sure that the patient is ready for change, in order to ensure that therapy is as effective as possible.
